Police investigate series of shootings - Sydney

Senior police have today expressed concern at a series of overnight targeted shootings in west and south-western Sydney.
Police are investigating two shootings at Granville and three others in the suburbs of Canley Heights, Old Guildford and Holroyd.
These incidents are being investigated by Strike Force Felix which was established on Friday (28 October 2011) by officers from State Crime Command’s Middle Eastern Organised Crime Squad (MEOCS).
Detective Superintendent Deb Wallace, Commander of MEOCS, said while the two shootings at Granville appear to be linked the others, while targeted, are being treated as separate incidents.
“These do not appear to be random shootings, however, the escalation of these incidents is extremely concerning to police,” Detective Superintendent Wallace said.
“There were occupants, including children, at home when the shots were fired so we are very lucky no one was injured.”
Investigators are currently attempting to establish a motive for each of the shootings and are examining forensic evidence gathered from each crime scene.
However Det Superintendent Wallace said this process was being hampered by some of the victims’ unwillingness to cooperate with police.
“We are frustrated by the lack of help we have been getting so far. There is no doubt some of the people know more then they are letting on,” she said.
“We need to break down this wall of silence before somebody is seriously injured or killed.”
Anyone with information about the shootings is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 - Information can be given to Crime Stoppers anonymously.
