allah is not in a position to give mercy to someone who is dead, and it is more likely that allah has deceived Anwar al-Aulaqi into believing a lie, thus rejecting God's plan of salvation and eternal life through Jesus Christ.

At the Northern Virginia mosque where Anwar al-Aulaqi once preached, the news of his killing ripped open a wound that congregants wish would heal.
For a decade, Dar al-Hijrah has been haunted by its association with Aulaqi, who was the imam at the Falls Church mosque on Sept. 11, 2001, but had yet to publicly embrace the anti-American extremism that would make him a target of U.S. drones.
“May Allah give him mercy,” the imam told dozens of worshipers, noting that “when anyone leaves this life . . . their judgment is reserved by Allah.”

The imam has fallen for allah's lie; it is for God to judge us when we die, and only one basis for avoiding the punishment due to us - to be found in the Lamb's book of life:
"And no unclean thing shall ever enter it, nor any one who is guilty of base conduct or tells lies, but only they whose names stand recorded in the Lamb's Book of Life." (Revelation 21:27)
Allah lied. People died.
