AS the 10th anniversary of September 11 approaches, a La Trobe University lecturer says the Islamic world and the Western world have no choice but to eventually get along.
Bendigo-based lecturer Rodney Blackhirst specialises in Islamic and Western relations, religion and politics and said slowly there would be progress.
“There is a historical mutual misunderstanding which dates back to the Middle Ages which is so deep,” he said.
“But we have no choice but to progress, the Islamic world is quite Westernised. You can sit in a McDonald’s in Islamabad and conversely there are 20 million Muslims living in Europe.
