PESHAWAR: Speakers at a seminar on Sunday termed the 9/11 attacks a conspiracy against the Islamic world and lashed out at the United States for staging the drama to make an excuse for attacking Iraq and Afghanistan.
Addressing a seminar, Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) Provincial Chief Senator Prof Muhammad Ibrahim said the US wanted an excuse for launching crusade against Muslims for occupying natural resources in the Islamic countries. Jamaat-e-Islami Peshawar district chapter had arranged the seminar titled ‘9/11 incident and its bad impacts’ to mark the 10th anniversary of the attacks.
Rustam Shah Mohmand, former Pakistan ambassador to Afghanistan who also served as chief secretary of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, was also among the speakers. Prof Ibrahim added that the hegemonic designs of the US were still a serious threat to the Islamic states including nuclear-armed Pakistan, as it was afraid of the rapid spread of Islam in the world.

Rustam Shah Mohmand said the 9/11 attacks were a staged drama. He said CIA created hurdles for the investigative commission constituted by the US Congress and did not allow access to the videos of the incident as claimed by the commission’s chairman. “How sensitive installations like the Pentagon and Twin Towers were hit by ordinary Arab young men in the presence of 16 American intelligence agencies?” he posed a question.
JI Peshawar district Ameer Bahrullah and former provincial minister Hafiz Hashmat also termed the 9/11 attacks as a great drama of the 21st century staged for the fulfilment of their hegemonic designs. They said all the investigative reports into the incident showed that explosives were planted in different floors of the Twin Towers and remote-controlled planes were used in the incident. They said the US had suffered defeat in Afghanistan and was seeking an excuse to leave. They asked the rulers to quit the so-called war on terror so that peace could be restored in Afghanistan and Pakistan. Later, the JI workers staged a protest and chanted slogans against the US.
