Chicago’s Libyan community revels in homeland’s freedom
[Smiling, exhilarated, almost giddy with excitement, Chicago Libyans who had grown up under a repressive and brutal police state embraced each other and reveled in their homeland’s newly-won freedoms.
They had gathered Monday at the Loop headquarters of the Council of Islamic Organizations of Greater Chicago to talk to the media.]
“I would like to congratulate all the people of Libya, with your resistance and standing against this tyrant, We got our freedom, we got our life back,” said Sanad Abdalla, a Chicago resident who grew up in Libya.
